TerraTight guide

A resin bound driveway is one of the most practical upgrades for a UAE villa: no loose stones in the car port, no dust blowing back onto the paving after every shamal, and rainwater that drains straight through when a winter storm arrives. The catch is the climate. Two-component resins react faster in heat, and a summer afternoon in Dubai can shorten your working time dramatically. This guide walks through how to plan and lay a resin bound driveway so the heat works for you, not against you.
Resin bound paving is a wearing surface, not a structural one. It needs a stable base underneath, and any movement or cracking below will eventually show through.
If you are not sure about the base, send us photos before you buy materials.
For anything that carries vehicles, we recommend TerraTight Epoxy (EP-231), our highest-strength binder. Its tensile shear strength of 5.63 MPa is what lets a resin bound surface take turning tyres day after day. For walkways and patios where colour matters more than load, TerraTight PU (PU-211) is the better choice because it is formulated to resist yellowing in UV.
Pair the binder with tumbled, washed stone between 1 and 6 mm. Because washed stone has no fine dust, the resin coats every piece evenly and you use less binder than with ordinary crushed stone. The thickness of the finished layer depends on stone size and traffic; vehicle areas are typically laid thicker than footpaths, and we confirm the right thickness when we calculate your quantities.
At 25°C, TerraTight Epoxy gives you 120 to 180 minutes of working time after mixing. Above 40°C that window shortens noticeably, which is the main reason summer installations go wrong. A few habits make all the difference:
Moisture is the enemy at this stage. The stone, the mixing equipment and the base must all be completely dry.
Tip the mix onto the prepared base and spread it to an even depth, then trowel it smooth so the stones lock together into one flat surface. Work in manageable bays so each batch is finished well within its working time, and keep a wet edge between batches so joints are invisible. Clean trowels regularly so they glide rather than drag the stone.
Leave the driveway dry and untouched for two days before you drive on it. Keep sand, leaves and water off the surface while it cures. If a dust storm is forecast, cover the area or delay the job.
Maintenance is simple: sweep away sand, rinse with a hose and power-wash occasionally. Because the surface is permeable, rinsing also clears fine dust from the pores so it keeps draining. If an area is damaged, it can be repaired by re-applying binder and stone to that patch only.
